Customize for Specific Systems
Giving one system's tier its own bullets and order — which homeowners see it, what stops updating automatically, and how to undo it.
Every system you sell shows your shared selling points. Company Settings → Selling Points → Customize for specific systems gives one system's tier its own list instead — a cold-climate bullet on heat pumps only, say, or no AC bullet on a furnace-only install.
Why you might not see this card
It only appears when you sell at least two systems. Each gas furnace system counts as two — it comes in an 80% and a 95+% efficiency version — and so does Mini Split / Ductless, which has a single-zone and a multi-zone version. So a company selling only Gas Furnace + AC sees the card; one selling only AC Only doesn't.
You choose the systems you sell with the switches in the Equipment sidebar of Company Settings → Price Book. If you've never changed those switches, the card lists every system — Hydronic Heating included, even though your estimator doesn't offer hydronic until you switch it on.
If you cut back to one system after customizing it, the card disappears but the customization keeps showing to homeowners. To change it, switch a second system on to bring the card back — homeowners can pick that system while it's on.
Which homeowners see a customization
It depends on their answer to What system would you like?, and for some systems a follow-up question:
| System in the picker | Homeowners who answered |
|---|---|
| AC Only | AC Only |
| Electric Furnace | Electric Furnace |
| Electric Heat Pump | Electric Heat Pump |
| Gas Furnace + AC — 80% Efficiency | Gas Furnace & AC, then Mid Efficiency (80%) or I'm Not Sure |
| Gas Furnace + AC — 95+% Efficiency | Gas Furnace & AC, then High Efficiency (95%+) |
| Gas Furnace + Heat Pump — 80% Efficiency | Gas Furnace & Heat Pump, then Mid Efficiency (80%) or I'm Not Sure |
| Gas Furnace + Heat Pump — 95+% Efficiency | Gas Furnace & Heat Pump, then High Efficiency (95%+) |
| Gas Furnace Only — 80% Efficiency | Gas Furnace Only, then Mid Efficiency (80%) or I'm Not Sure |
| Gas Furnace Only — 95+% Efficiency | Gas Furnace Only, then High Efficiency (95%+) |
| Hydronic Heating | Boiler, Combi Boiler or Air-to-Water Heat Pump |
| Mini Split / Ductless — Multi-Zone Mini Split | Mini Split / Ductless, then Several rooms |
| Mini Split / Ductless — Single-Zone Mini Split | Mini Split / Ductless, then Just one room |
| Oil Furnace | Oil Furnace |
| Package System | Package Heat & Cool |
The follow-ups are What efficiency level do you prefer? for gas furnaces and How many rooms do you want to heat and cool? for mini-splits. If you've turned the efficiency question off, gas furnace homeowners always see the 80% list. Homeowners who answer Other / Not Sure get a home visit instead of prices, so they never see a list.
Customizing a tier
- Pick the system from Customize a system…. Its three tiers are listed top tier first, each marked Inherits the shared list until you change it.
- Click Customize this tier. The tier gets its own copy of the list it was showing, and a Customized badge.
- Change the list. Use the arrows to reorder and the trash icon to remove. Add a shared point… adds any shared bullet that isn't already in the list — even one that isn't ticked for this tier. Add your own adds a bullet that only this system's tier shows, up to 20 per tier.
- Check the Homeowner sees: line under the tier, then click Save. Save covers all three tiers of the system you have open.
Systems with a customized tier are listed as badges at the top of the card — click one to open it.
What stops updating automatically
A customized tier keeps its own list. Two changes to the shared list still reach it: editing a bullet's text, and deleting a bullet. Nothing else does — a new shared bullet, or a tick added to an existing one, won't appear until you add it with Add a shared point…, and unticking a bullet won't remove it. See Shared Selling Points for the full breakdown.
Customizing is enough on its own. Click Customize this tier and Save without changing anything, and that tier still stops picking up new shared bullets.
Going back to the shared list
Click Reset to shared on the tier, then Save. The tier follows the shared list again, including anything added to it since, and bullets you wrote with Add your own are deleted.
Things that catch people out
- Opening another system throws away unsaved changes. Picking a different system — from the dropdown or a badge — discards anything you haven't saved, without asking.
- An empty customized tier shows nothing. Remove every bullet and that option has no Included with every install section at all.
- Your own bullets won't repeat one that's already there. If a bullet you write matches another in the list, ignoring capitals, homeowners see it once.
- Multi-zone mini-splits use one list for every option. Every zone option shows the top tier's list for Mini Split / Ductless — Multi-Zone Mini Split. That system's mid and entry tier lists are never shown, and customizing the single-zone system doesn't change it.
- Switching a system off keeps its customizations. They come back if you switch it on again.
