Subdomain

Your estimator's web address — the rules for picking one, and what breaks when you change it.

Your subdomain is the first part of your estimator's address: yourbusiness.instantestimatehq.com. It's usually set from your company name when you sign up, and you can change it in Company Settings → Form Options → Subdomain. As you type, the card shows the full address underneath.

Picking a name

  • 3–63 characters.
  • Lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens only — no spaces, capitals or dots.
  • It can't start or end with a hyphen.
  • A few names are reserved — www, app, api, admin and mail, among others.

Short and recognizable works best: it's what homeowners see in their browser and what you'll print on ads.

If saving fails, the name is almost always taken by another company or reserved. The error message doesn't say which — try a variation.

What happens when you change it

Your old address stops working the moment you save. There's no redirect — anyone following an old link lands on a Contractor Not Found page.

Before you change it, have a list of everywhere the old address lives, and update each one straight after:

  • Your website — the "Get an Instant Estimate" button or link.
  • Ads, your Google Business profile, email signatures and anything printed.
  • Links already sent to homeowners. Anyone partway through an estimate when you switch may hit errors and have to start again from the new address.
  • Your CRM, if you've connected one. New leads get links at the new address, but contacts already in your CRM keep links to the old one, and those stop opening.

Your dashboard and your lead notification emails aren't affected — those links point to your account, not your estimator.

Don't leave it blank

The card lets you clear the field and save, but a blank subdomain takes your estimator offline: there's no address for homeowners to visit, and your CRM links stop working too. If you want a different name, type the new one over the old one.
