Location Options

Which equipment locations homeowners can choose, when those questions appear, and how the answers feed your surcharges.

Company Settings → Form Options → Location Options decides which answers homeowners can pick when the estimator asks where their current equipment is. Untick a location you don't want to offer — say, rooftop units if you don't do crane work — and it disappears from the question.

The two questions it controls

Where is the furnace or indoor unit? The heading changes with the system the homeowner said they have — "Where is your furnace?", "Where is your indoor unit?" or "Where is your boiler?" — or reads "Where is your furnace or indoor unit?" if you don't ask about their current system.

When homeowners see each question

First, the question has to be able to change the price. The furnace / indoor unit question is only asked while your Attic or Crawlspace surcharge is more than $0, and the outdoor unit question while your Rooftop surcharge is — see Estimate Questions.

Then it depends on what they tell the estimator they have now:

Current systemFurnace / indoor unit questionOutdoor unit question
Gas Furnace Only, Electric Furnace, Oil FurnaceYesNo
Gas Furnace & AC, Gas Furnace & Heat PumpYesYes
AC Only, Electric Heat Pump, Air-to-Water Heat PumpYesYes
Boiler, Combi BoilerYesNo
Mini Split / Ductless, Package Heat & Cool, Other / Not SureNoYes

If you've turned off What system do you have now?, the estimator can't tell, so every homeowner gets both questions.

Unticking options never removes a question. If you leave only one option ticked, homeowners still see the question and have to tap that one answer to move on.

How the answers affect price

Three answers carry a location surcharge: Attic and Crawlspace for the furnace or indoor unit, and Rooftop for the outdoor unit. You set the amounts in Company Settings → Price Book under Location surcharges — each starts at $2,000 until you change it.

  • Calculator pricing adds the surcharge to your costs before your margins, so the homeowner's price goes up by more than the surcharge itself.
  • Flat-rate pricing adds the surcharge straight to the price.
  • Mini-split estimates never take a surcharge. The location answers describe the homeowner's current system, not where a ductless install would go.

Hiding Attic, Crawlspace or Rooftop means that surcharge can never apply. If you'd rather charge for those installs than turn them away, leave the option on and set the surcharge.

Where the answers end up

Every lead records the answers to the location questions its homeowner was asked. Your lead notification email — and your CRM, if you've connected one — shows them in the estimate summary as "Equipment location: Furnace in Attic · Outdoor unit at Rooftop". It says "Furnace" even when the homeowner has a boiler or an indoor unit.

Keep at least one option ticked in each group. If you untick every box in a group and click Save, nothing is saved and no error appears — tick one back and save again.
