Mini-Splits

Pricing single-room and multi-zone ductless systems, how homeowners choose between them, and what they see for each.

The Mini Split / Ductless family in Company Settings → Price Book holds two systems, priced separately: Single-Zone Mini Split for one room, and Multi-Zone Mini Split for several. The family is switched on to start, but neither system comes with starter prices — so until you add some, homeowners who pick a mini-split are offered a home visit instead of prices.

How homeowners choose

A homeowner who picks Mini Split / Ductless is asked "How many rooms do you want to heat and cool?":

  • Just one room — they're asked "About how big is that room?" and get three options from your Single-Zone prices. Answering I'm not sure gets them a home visit.
  • Several rooms — they get your Multi-Zone prices, one option per number of zones. They're still asked their home's square footage, but it doesn't change the price.

Mini-splits never take a location surcharge.

Single-Zone Mini Split

Priced like other systems — Best, Better and Good tabs, with a price for each size — but sized by capacity: 9,000, 12,000, 15,000, 18,000 and 24,000 BTU. There's one Materials amount in Calculator mode, for every size.

  • The size comes from the room. Rooms too small for a 9,000 BTU unit get 9,000 BTU, so most single rooms land there — price that size carefully. A room that needs more than 24,000 BTU gets a home visit.
  • The Sizing basis switch applies.
  • A size with nothing priced gets a home visit. Unlike whole-home systems, a $0 or blank price here never produces a price. If only some options are priced at a size, the others are left out in Calculator mode, or show Request a quote in Flat-rate.
  • Reset to defaults clears everything, since there's no starter equipment for it.

Homeowners see three options, the same as for any other system, headed "Based on your ~300 sq ft room, we typically recommend a 9,000 BTU ductless system".

Multi-Zone Mini Split

One equipment line, priced by the number of zones:

  • Equipment name, SEER and Noise level (dB) — shared by every zone count, and shown on every option.
  • Material cost (per system) — Calculator mode only.
  • A price for 2, 3, 4 and 5 zones — your equipment cost in Calculator mode, or the Starting price (From) in Flat-rate. Leave a zone count blank to hide it; leave them all blank and homeowners get a home visit.
  • A photo for each zone count, if you want — any zone count without one uses the Default photo.

In Calculator mode, every zone count uses the Best option's warranty and additional costs from Business Pricing, and the same labor hours. Multi-Zone Mini Split has no Reset to defaults and isn't included in CSV import and export.

What homeowners see for several rooms

Under the heading "Mini splits are priced by zone — one indoor unit per room. Pick the number of zones that fits your home.", one option per zone count you've priced:

  • Named by zone count — 2 Zones, 3 Zones — rather than by your tier names.
  • A typical size: Typically 18,000 BTU for 2 zones, then 30,000, 36,000 and 42,000 BTU for 3, 4 and 5 zones. These are fixed labels, not something you set.
  • Your equipment name, specs, price — under From*, or as your range — and As low as $X/mo.
  • A button to choose it, such as Choose 2 Zones, and the Included with every install bullets. Every zone count shows the same bullets — see Customize for Specific Systems.

The 2-zone option is highlighted to start. Below them there's always a 6 or more zones card with a Book a free visit button, and the note "* Starting price. Your exact price is confirmed at your free home visit."
